Food insecurity remains a significant issue among African immigrants and refugees in the U.S.
The Food Security Program at UHAI for Health addresses this by providing both raw foods and
cooked meals to families in need.
Key Services
Raw Food Distribution
Weekly distribution of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and
proteins ensures families have access to nutritious ingredients. UHAI also partners with
local farms collaborating with food pantries and organizations to source fresh produce,
reducing costs and supporting local agriculture.
Cooked Meal Delivery
Through partnerships with businesses like Tembo Grill, UHAI
delivers culturally appropriate, freshly cooked meals to African American refugees and
immigrants. Special attention is given to dietary restrictions and cultural preferences to
ensure inclusivity.
Nutrition Education
Workshops on meal planning and healthy cooking are offered to
empower families with the knowledge and skills to make nutritious meals on their own.
