Annual Health Fair 2025

UHAI for Health Annual Health Fair: A Reflection on Healing, Connection, and Community Strength

On September 13th, Worcester community came together for a day that was more than just an event, it was a powerful reminder of what happens when people gather with openness, honesty, and hope. The UHAI for Health Annual Health Fair focused on addressing mental health stigma in the African community, creating a safe, welcoming space for conversations that are often left unspoken.

From the moment people arrived, the energy of connection and purpose was clear. Families, youth, elders, and community leaders came together for an experience that was emotional and inspiring. Some of the most powerful moments came from individuals who bravely shared their stories of pain, resilience, and healing. Their honesty broke down barriers and showed that vulnerability is a true sign of strength.

The fair was a celebration of both heritage and healing. The African heritage fashion show filled the space with fun, color, pride, and culture, each design and fabric telling a story of identity, belonging, and joy. Around the room, community partners and resource tables offered tools and information to support mental health and wellness, creating an environment where learning felt both empowering and personal.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and partners, including The City of Worcester Department of Health and Human Services Division of Public Health, UMASS Memorial, Mosaic Opioid Recovery Partnership, and the Mass Cultural Council, among many others. Their ongoing commitment allowed us to create a platform that not only informs but transforms us.

This year’s fair reminded us that when we come together, when we listen, share, and uplift one another, we begin to rewrite the narrative surrounding mental health in our communities. Each conversation, each connection, and each act of courage moved us closer to a future where seeking help is seen as an act of empowerment, not shame.

The turnout showed our shared commitment to healing and growth. As we move forward, we hold onto one truth: healing happens together, and every story matters. Together, we’re breaking barriers, building understanding, and celebrating our shared humanity.
